DOCG

The Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin (DOCG) is the italian brand which certifies the wine geographical origin. To obtain it, the wines must be produced inside a specific geographical area: in the case of Pignoletto, unique DOCG wine in Emilia, exclusively in the municipalities of Valsamoggia, Monte San Pietro, Zola Predosa, Casalecchio di Reno, Sasso Marconi and Savignano sul Panaro. The regulations for this certification, stricter than those ones for DOC, also provide very specific organoleptic characteristics, wine types, yield per hectare and wine ageing method and duration.

Since May 2010, following to implementation of EU legislation, both DOCG and DOCclassifications have been included inside the DOP category.

ORGANIC

After three years of conversion from ‘advanced integrated pest control’ to protect our vines, our vineyards achieved the organic certification in 2022. Unlike traditional farming, the organic farming requires only to utilize substances that exploit the soil’s natural fertility. Priority is given to safeguard the soil’s natural fertility by avoiding more invasive forms of pollution and respecting the biodiversity.

In the specific case of vine, organic and natural fertilizers (such as copper and sulphur) and living organisms capable of defeating pests (such as ladybugs) are used. Furthermore, crop rotation is practized to improve the soil fertility and plant species resistant to various types of pests are planted so that they can be protected to each other.
Winemaking techniques are also strictly regulated: approximately half of adjuvants admitted to the conventional production may be used, with limitations on the use of added sulphites and sulphur dioxide. Indigenous yeasts, those ones naturally present in the grapes, may be also used.

Organic wine is therefore a “good” product for the environment as well as for consumers, because it contains “healthy” substances like Resveratrol which preserves the cardiovascular system.
This obviously does not mean that we can abuse of it: we love good wine, we produce it responsibly and we recommend to consume it with the same sense of responsibility.
