Baraldi Azolini Family
In 1997 Angela and Bruno entered into a partnership with Pio Vannozzi, then sole owner and president of DOC Colli Bolognesi Wine Consortium as well as heir to the ancient lands of the noble Ranuzzi de’ Bianchi bolognese family.
Together they went on the family’s long winemaking tradition with substantial structural investments in the winery and preservation of the native Grechetto Gentile grape: from DOCG designation to the recent conversion to the organic cultivation.
A Territory of Excellence
Our vineyards are located into the restricted Colli Bolognesi DOCG area, in Valsamoggia. This sandstone, clayey and mineral rich soil gives the grapes a distinctive flavour, which finds its peak expression in the Pignoletto wines. To ensure the best quality we have chosen low yields per hectare and a very strict selection process in vineyard through short prunings.
The Gold of the Hills
We firmly believe that protecting native grape varieties is an important choice, as our region is rich in food and wine excellences, and Pignoletto is no exception. This is why we have focused on a production able to maximize the characteristics of this wine. Whether sparkling, still or in its Passito version, this wine embodies an ancient value and the culture of our land.
OUR BEST WINE
PIGNOLETTO IS PART OF OUR HISTORY: A HERITAGE TO BE PROTECTED AND SHARED.
THE HISTORY OF PIGNOLETTO
An ancient wine, referenced as early as the first century AC in Pliny the Elder’s “Naturalis Historia”. It is described as a sparkling blond wine but too lightly sweetened to be appreciated by the nobles of the time.
OMNIA ALLA VINA IN BONITATE EXCEDIR
“A wine superior to all others” is how it was described in the biographies of the rural monks who, in the following centuries, were engaged to take care of the vineyards: these grapes were known as “pignole” and have survived to the present days.
A STEP BACK TO MOVE FORWARD
Our recent decision to convert all our vineyards to the organic cultivation is our declaration of love for these precious and ancient grapes: because we want to produce an excellent wine that is also good for our land.
Our Pignoletto Superiore, Alba in Vigna and Pignoletto Passito are all DOCG/DOC wines obtained from certified organic grapes.
